Payment Options

All orders from this website are processed in Australian dollars. If you are overseas, your credit card company or Paypal will make the conversion for you and charge you in your local currency, according to the exchange rate at the time the order is processed. (There is the option to view the items in other currencies via the Currency Conversion drop down menu under each item’s information)

We currently accept the following payment methods;

  1. Credit Card – We accept Visa, American Express, Mastercard, and Bankcard. Credit card orders are processed via secure SSL server and your details are encrypted to prevent fraud.
  2. Paypal – Paypal is an excellent and safe method of doing business, in which a third party (Paypal) acts as the handler of money between the two parties. For more information on how this works, visit the Paypal website.
  3. Direct Deposit – You may deposit the funds directly into our bank account (in Australian dollars). Please email us for bank account details if you wish to choose this payment option. (For Australian orders only).
  4. Afterpay – for Australian, New Zealand, Canadian and UK online customers only. You will need to have an Afterpay account to use this service.

GST (Goods and Services Tax)

GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a value-added tax of 10% added on most goods and services transactions in Australia. Prices on our website are shown in both inclusive and exclusive GST prices. If you are an overseas customer, you do not need to pay this tax. Exported goods are tax-free and not subject to Australia’s GST. Opals Down Under passes this benefit onto our international customers and internet purchases shipped overseas are accordingly tax-free. Customers who reside in Australia however will be charged this tax at the rate of ten per cent. Please select the correct tax bracket when submitting your order.


In our experience, it is rare for import taxes to be imposed by your home country. However, it is still possible that customers may be liable to pay import taxes imposed by their government upon arrival of their goods. This differs from country to country and we have no control over which taxes may be charged. In the case of a refund, the customer must bear all costs associated with import taxes as it is not possible for Opals Down Under to refund this amount or other costs associated with importing goods. Customers should research their country’s import tax policies prior to making a purchase (For example, UK customs may charge up to 33% of the items value in Customs Duty + Import VAT + Clearance Fees).

Ring sizes

Our ring sizes are displayed in the Australian/British system, which is alphabetical. For those ordering from the US & Canada, please see our downloadable ring size chart. As a reference, our standard size N is equivalent to a US size 6 1/2.
Due to the bulk of our Opal Rings being one-off pieces, any resizing required can take up to 5-8 business days to complete, due to the jeweller’s workload. Please allow for this when ordering.

Lay Away / Lay By

We do accept lay aways / lay bys – please contact us if you would like to place a deposit for an item and make regular payments. Our standard lay-away period is six to eight weeks, with a minimum 20% deposit on all items.
Lay-bys do need to be paid in full before we release the item. Deposits for lay bys are non refundable.

Delivery Information

When tracking the parcel and noticing this message – ‘Origin Post is preparing shipment’, this means the parcel has left Australia and is currently waiting to be processed by the receiving country’s Customs.

We offer free global delivery for all opals orders over AUD $330 inc GST (AUD $300 ex GST). This is not built into the price, so you will genuinely have the opal delivered to you free of charge. You couldn’t do better if you came to Australia yourself!

International Orders under AU$300 ex GST will incur a delivery charge of AU$30. This covers insured Express airmail to anywhere in the world (excluding Italy, South Africa and Indonesia – for these countries, we only use DHL couriers for security purposes. This at a charge of AUD $220 at the customers expense.

Domestic (Australia) orders under AU$330 inc GST will incur a delivery charge of AU$16.50 inc GST, insured, express (trackable) post. These normally arrive within 3 business days.

All parcels sent by Opals Down Under are insured against loss, theft, or damage during delivery. You do not take any risk in purchasing from us, as your parcel is completely covered. Therefore you need not be concerned about the security of your opal during transit. All parcels sent by us also require a signature upon delivery. In most cases, parcels are sent the next business day following your order placement (or the same day when possible).

Please note, our pendants are sent with display chains (Gold-Plated or Silver-Plated) only, however Sterling Silver chains (40cm, 45cm and 50cm options) can be added to Sterling Silver or White Gold pendants for an extra cost, and Gold-Plated Sterling Silver chains (45cm adjustable to 40cm or 42cm, 55cm adjustable to 50cm or 52cm) can be added to Yellow Gold and Gold-Plated Sterling Silver pendants at an extra cost. This option is available from the dropdown menu when purchasing a pendant. For Sterling Silver chains, select the options with SS, for Gold-Plated Sterling Silver chains, select the GP options.

Highly valuable items/rushed orders can be delivered via DHL International Courier upon request – simply choose the option during checkout. DHL International Courier takes 5 to 7 business days for delivery.

Items of lesser value are shipped overseas via Express insured Air Mail, with tracking. These items are still fully covered by insurance, require a signature on delivery, and are given an unique registration number.

Items being sent within Australia are shipped via express post, trackable, and are also fully insured during delivery.

Since Opals Down Under covers the cost of all delivery, our discretion is used when selecting your delivery service, according to the value or urgency of the parcel. If you have special or urgent circumstances and would like your parcel sent by a premium service, please let us know and we can arrange for faster delivery for an extra fee to cover our costs.

Please note that we do not cover any extra duties or taxes that your country will charge on the imported item.

Please note: If you are placing an order over the Christmas period, please get your orders in early as delivery times tend to be delayed during the busy season.

*Unfortunately, we will no longer be accepting orders from Indonesia via Credit Card, due to high levels of fraudulent orders. We will be accepting orders from Indonesia that use Paypal or direct deposit. Please contact us prior to ordering.
