Friendly forces come together for great cause

Hinterland business, Opals Down Under (ODU) joined forces with charity group Friends of Ebenezer on Saturday February 9 for a Twilight Fundraiser on ODU’s Glenview premises, raising much-needed funds to help children in Zambia, one of the countries most affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

The small event with big intentions sold out with over 150 tickets sold, and attendees taking in the entertainment including live music, opal cutting demonstration, and the main event, the auction which featured a wide variety of items, including collectables generously donated by both local and National businesses and artists.

With over $7,000 generated on the night, the Twilight Fundraiser was dubbed an overall success – having also smashed previous totals raised on one-night events by Friends of Ebenezer.

Opals Down Under proprietor, Louise Stein said that she was pleasantly surprised by the outcome of the event, and that she was grateful for the opportunity to help with such an organisation.

“This was a fantastic night where a lot of hands came together, both staff and volunteers, to ensure the event was a success, and to see that we had helped to raise a considerable amount of money towards the work Friends of Ebenezer do was all worth it” she said.

“It was also great exposure for us, as well, with many of the patrons having never visited our store before, and who were amazed at what we do – it really was a win/win situation for all parties involved.”

The success of the event has even stirred up some excitement in the ODU camp, with the aim of potentially holding more fundraising events on site yearly.

Friends of Ebenezer Australia is a registered charity that raises funds to financially support the activities of the Ebenezer Childcare Trust in Livingstone, Southern Zambia – an organisation that provides shelter and education for some of the 700,000 orphans in Zambia that have been affected by tragic circumstance.
