Opal inlays?

If you've been researching opal rings, then no doubt you would have come across a very stylish, sleek-looking type of ring - the Inlay Ring.

They look amazing, we cannot dispute this, however, we would like to point out that lately in the workshop, it seems that they are the only items we've been having to repair.

Not from our own stock, mind you.

ODU's Twilight Fundraiser - in aid of Friends of Ebenezer

Opals Down Under will be playing host when they launch the event, Twilight Fundraiser on February 9th, 2013 on our Ballantyne Court premises in Glenview (Qld).

The event, in aid of Friends of Ebenezer (Helping children in Africa) will be held from 5pm.

The Never-ending Battle - Natural Opal vs Synthetic

Here at Opals Down Under, we do often see customers come in wanting 'real' Australian Opal, nothing synthetic.  Occasionally, they have confused Triplets and Doublets (which contain slivers of solid opal) with lab-created opal.

A series of transformations

Experimenting with new settings

You may have noticed over the last 12 months that we here at Opals Down Under have been experimenting with new settings in the Sterling Silver range.  Utilising a mix of Boulder, Black, and Crystal Opals in very modern, unusual settings, these pieces have been very popular.  

We've had more new pieces just come through to us, most of which are on our website currently.

We love the secrets discovered when cutting opal

Our fearless leaders recently returned from a month-long stint out west following the Gem and Opal shows, and amongst the treasures they brought back with them was this little beauty that we've had cut into 2 pieces, then split both pieces.

As you can see from the photos, the colours revealed, even in their raw form, are spectacular.

Not a bad find at all.

Another different, modern take on Opal

The time has come for a sneak preview of a new range we will be unleashing in the coming months.

A result from some serious brainstorming and obversations, this range of rings and pendants features different varieties of Australian Opal, complemented by stones like Topaz, Sapphires and Pearls set in Sterling Silver and oxidised Silver highlights.
