- Unset Opals
In 1985, Immo & Louise Stein built Opals Down Under on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Dedicating themselves to raising their family whilst also running a successful business, Immo & Louise saw their business grow and grow, earning a reputation as THE premier Opal Specialists on the Sunshine Coast, if not South East Queensland.
Immo began cutting opal in 1963 in the South Australian Opal fields of Andamooka.
In 1969 Immo and Louise married and moved to the Coober Pedy Opal Fields for five years, moved to Adelaide for a year, before travelling around Australia in a 31-foot caravan, cutting opals from a mobile workshop and supplying opals to gem dealers and jewellery stores.
In 1980, the Stein family moved to Gympie and set-up their first opal shop, and five years later, moving south to the Sunshine Coast, Opals Down Under was born.
Immo & Louise are now semi-retired, but are still actively involved in the business as well as travelling to the opal fields, sourcing more raw material to cut and sell.
Scott is the main man here at Opals Down Under. Manager. Opal Cutter. Product tester. Opals Down Under Ambassador at Networking meetings.

Assistant Manager/Advertising/Website Coordinator
Rhys has been with Opals Down Under since 2006, thrown into the deep end of managing the website.
Seen as the Social Media guru of the team, with a Bachelor of Arts (Communications) under his belt, Rhys handles the day-to-day customer enquiries that come through email, photographs/edits the new stones and jewellery, designs the advertising, educates customers, but doesn’t make coffee.
Starting as the Internet Coordinator for Opals Down Under, Rhys has quickly grown into the role of Assistant Manager.
